The SFPL Dragon returns

*crawls out of hiding* If you didn’t already know, writer’s block is a bitch. It’s a funny thing to consider yourself a writer, but being unable to write. Aside from the one post earlier this year at the passing of Richard Hatch, I have not touched a blog since before last year’s Dragon Con. Writing has always been a source of comfort and refuge for me, but the past 12 months? Nope. Even now, I am struggling just to get this small little post out,…

As of right now, I will be sitting on two panels each from the American SF & Fantasy Media and YA Lit Tracks. This is the information I have so far;…

Dragon Con adds guests from Dark Matter, DC TV universe and others

Last month Dragon Con picked up the pace on guest announcements, including some from shows/movies that are either on my “currently watching” or “need to watch/catch up” lists. From the SyFy show Dark Matter, guest announcements include Anthony Lemke, Jodelle Ferland, Roger Cross, and Zoie Palmer; who are known on the show as “Three”, “Five”, “Six”, and “The Android”, respectively. The show follows a group of amnesiacs who try to piece together who they are and why there were in stasis on an abandoned spaceship.…

This will be our first year in an official media capacity at Dragon Con, and I…

Once Upon a Time panel at Dragon*Con #dragonpartyline

The ladies (Cat and Stephanie) did not meet me after my long love affair with the High Velocity sign in the Marriott Marquis in my Morpheus costume, so I went to the Once Upon a Time: Let Us Tell You a Story panel and made them wait! I’m classy like that! On this panel was Lee Arenberg, Beverley Elliott, Giancarlo Esposito, Robbie Kay, Rebecca Mader, and Sean Maguire. DragonCon 2014 | Photos taken by Carl | August 29, 2014

Dragon Con adds “Harry Potter” actresses to guest list

It’s about damn time. After feeling a little bit of despair at the lack of Potter-related guests for this year’s Dragon Con, Potterheads received notice that not one, but two actresses from the series would be appearing at the popular convention held every Labor Day weekend. The official Dragon Con Facebook page announced today that Evanna Lynch and Scarlett Byrne, known to Harry Potter fans as Luna Lovegood and Pansy Parkinson, respectively, would make first-time appearances. Lynch first appeared in the fifth film of the series, Harry Potter…

2014 is the year that the Sci-Fi Party Line crew will descend upon the annual Dragon*Con convention like a swarm of locust infected with a biblical plague. It’s that time of year again: Dragon Con!!!

I know I’ve been absent from the blogging scene for quite a while and I apologize. Real life and all that jazz. But now it’s August, and you know what that means for me…Dragon Con!!! For those of you who are unaware of what I’m referring to, Dragon Con is the largest multi-media, popular culture convention focusing on science fiction and fantasy, gaming, comics, literature, art, music, and film. Every Labor Day weekend, about 40,000 people (or more) crowd the streets and take over the…

Interview with Sam Witwer of SyFy’s “Being Human”

How do you play a character fighting to belong to two worlds? In the SyFy Channel series “Being Human“, actor Sam Witwer has to do just that as Aidan, a 207-year old vampire who is struggling to fit in in the human world. And when we say struggling, we mean it. By day, Aidan is a hospital employee determined to appear as normal as possible to the outside world; in reality, he is struggling with his vampire side for dominance, while also being best friends/roommates with…

One-on-One with “Being Human” star Sam Huntington at Dragon*Con 2011

On the SyFy Channel series “Being Human” he plays Josh, the overly-cautious, somewhat insecure werewolf trying desperately to hide in life’)s background in order to avoid revealing his secret. In real life his portrayer, actor Sam Huntington, couldn’t be more the opposite. In person, Huntington is funny, friendly, and generally seems to have a good time – all of the time. Whether he is by himself or wreaking havoc during a Q&A session with his two co-stars, Sam Witwer and Meaghan Rath, Huntington makes it very clear that he…

One-on-One Interview with “Being Human” star Meaghan Rath

Dragon*Con, the annual multi-genre fan convention that takes place every Labor Day weekend, has come and gone until next year. As part of my assignment with Examiner.com, I had a chance to briefly speak one-on-one with Meaghan Rath, one of the stars for the hit SyFy Channel series, “Being Human“. The show, which is an American adaptation of the U.K. series by the same name, is about three supernatural beings – a vampire, a werewolf, and a ghost – who have all become roommates sharing a…

Taking place in the downtown streets of Atlanta, Dragon*Con is the largest multi-media, popular culture convention focusing on science fiction and fantasy, gaming, comics, literature, art, music, and film. Every Labor Day weekend, about 40,000 people crowd the streets and take over the hotels of downtown Atlanta to meet friends, celebrities,…

Fan Faves from “True Blood”, “Vampire Diaries” Added to Dragon*Con

After more than a week with no updates, Dragon*Con has added some fan favorites from two of the hottest current television series to the guest list. And while you’re drooling over the photo at the left, I will shamelessly admit to adding this blog post with just a teensy bit of lust going on. If you haven’t guessed by now, Joe Manganiello – who plays hot-blooded werewolf Alcide Herveaux on the HBO hit series “True Blood” – has been added to this year’s guest list…

Dragon*Con Implements New Measures to Speed Up Registration

If you’ve ever been to Dragon*Con in Atlanta, you know that it’s probably one of the best (if not the best) multi-genre, fandom, cultural, everything convention around. With over 30,000 (at least!) in attendance each year, registration is one of the biggest challenges Dragon*Con faces. Fans who purchase their memberships months in advance can wait upwards of 4 hours in line to pick up their badges, which is about the same amount of time that fans purchasing on-the-spot will spend purchasing their badges. And let’s…

More “Supernatural” Guests Added to Dragon*Con Guest List

Wow! Looks like Atlanta will be a city of angels, demons, and hunters this September, as four more stars from the television show “Supernatural” has been added to the guest list for Dragon*Con 2011. In addition to earlier announcements of guests Misha Collins (Castiel the Angel) and Mark A. Sheppard (Crowley the Demon), the updated Dragon*Con lineup now includes Jim Beaver, Samantha Ferris, Julie McNiven and Christopher Heyerdahl. Beaver has become one of the favorites in a fandom well known for an almost obsessive fixation…
