Actors from Star Trek, Star Wars, 2001 Space Odyssey and The Hobbit trilogy will be on hand, joined by the stars of Arrow, Game of Thrones, The Flash, Sleepy Hollow as well as True Blood and Warehouse 13.
Sesame Street Meets Peachtree When Top Puppeteers Arrive
ATLANTA – July 27, 2015 – Edward James Olmos, Nichelle Nichols, Peter Mayhew, Felicia Day, John Barrowman, David Ramsey, and Stephen Amell head an all-star guest list of more than 400 actors, authors, artists and other creators appearing at Dragon Con 2015, Atlanta’s internationally known pop culture, fantasy, sci-fi and gaming convention.
Nichols, who broke barriers as Lt. Uhura in the original Star Trek television series, will serve as Grand Marshall of the annual Dragon Con Parade.
Two doctors from the long-running BBC series Dr. Who – Sylvester McCoy and Paul McGann, the seventh and eight doctors, respectively – will appear together at this year’s Dragon Con.
And, at this year’s Dragon Con, Sesame Street meets Peachtree. Famed puppeteer Carroll Spinney, who recently retired after 45 years performing Big Bird and Oscar the Grouch will appear along with the puppeteers behind other Sesame Streetfavorites including Abby Cadabby and Grundgetta. (While the puppeteers will be on hand, the characters will not.) Cheryl Henson, daughter of the late Jim Henson and president of the Jim Henson Foundation, will also join us for Dragon Con.
More than 65,000 people are expected to attend Dragon Con 2015, filling downtown Atlanta over the four-day Labor Day weekend, September 4 to September 7, with events and activities across AmericasMart Building #2 and five host hotels – Hyatt Regency Atlanta, Marriott Marquis, Hilton Atlanta, Westin Peachtree and Sheraton Atlanta.
“We’re very excited about this year’s guest list. We have attracted guests from some of the best shows on television today, including Arrow, Game of Thrones,Marvel’s Agents of Shield, and Once Upon A Time,” convention co-chair Rachel Reeves said. “We also have guests from fan favorite shows from recent years, such as Warehouse 13 and classic sci-fi shows such as Doctor Who.”
Main cast members from several popular broadcast network and cable shows such as Fox’s Sleepy Hollow, CW’s Arrow, CW’s The Flash, HBO’s Game of Thrones,CW’s The 100, Syfy’sDefiance, Syfy’s Ghost Hunters and the Showcase series Lost Girl will be on hand. Other shows represented include ABC’s Once Upon A Time, FX’s American Horror Story, Fox’s Fringe, NBC’s Hannibal, and NBC’s Continuum.
Classic television is also well represented this year. Guests from popular shows such as Doctor Who, Buck Rogers in the 25th Century, Torchwood, Mystery Science Theater 3000, Buffy the Vampire Slayer, the Battlestar Galactica franchise, theStargate franchise and the Star Trek franchise will attend panels and sign memorabilia and photographs for their fans.
Movies are not to be forgotten. Peter Mayhew, Chewbacca from the Star Warstrilogies, Keir Dullea and Gary Lockwood from Stanley Kubrick’s 1968 masterpiece2001 Space Odyssey, and Academy-award nominated character actor Graham Greene, whose credits include Dances With Wolves, The Green Mile, Maverick, TheTwilight Saga and Northern Exposure.
Julian Glover, who plays Grand Maester Pycelle on Game of Thrones, is a veteran film actor. He has appeared as grail hunter Walter Donovan in Indiana Jones and The Last Crusade, General Veers in Star Wars Episode V: The Empire Strikes Back, and villainous double agent Aristotle Kristatos in For Your Eyes Only.
From Peter Jackson’s Middle Earth, John Noble appeared in the final installment of the Lord of the Rings trilogy, while Peter Hambleton, Stephen Hunter and Dean O’Gorman appeared inThe Hobbit trilogy.
Additional guests are likely to be announced before Dragon Con.
